~~ Toshiba Libretto L5 English Install XP ~~

What I used for this install:

Toshiba Libretto L5 PAL5080TNLN 
(some pictures feature the NKW model too). 
SONY PCGA-CD51/A PCMCIA CD-ROM
IODATA 256MB miro-DIMM
Libretto L5 Driver "backup" CD (basic required drivers HERE ).

#1 install RAM
 >>  >> 



#2 check the RAM is ok




#3 boot your machine into Japanese windows
and skip all the rego stuff



#4 put in the XP CD

go through the install preliminary setup (full install)
Skip the "get updated setup files" section
Machine will then reboot into XP-dos.



#5 choose the first partition to install into (c: Partition 1)

choose to format the contents of this partition, then do the install.
(the Japanese recovery is on the D: Partition 2, best not to delete this!)



#6 continue to set up XP as usual (about 60mins required) 
Install asian fonts and select Japanese (if you want). 

Then when it finally completes the install, register it, put the rego sticker on your PC, go to next step.



#7 When XP is installed, first the video will look stretched. 
So pop in the Driver CD and install the video driver, and Toshiba power tools etc.
NOTE: for most of these Double click the xxxxxx.BAT files to install (not the xxxxxx.EXE files)
BUT not for the SD dirver! (see step #9)

best to install in this order
 1. video driver
 2. Network Switch (if needed)
 3. TOSHIBA COMMON MODULE 
 4. TOSHIBA POWER SAVER 
 5. TOSHIBA UTILITY 
Machine will need a reboot after installing all these.



#8 install the Japanese Keyboard driver
Control Panel>>System>>hardware>>device manager>>right click "101/102 keyboard">>
driver>>update driver>>install from spec. location>>don't search, I'll choose>>
show all compat. Hardware>> Japanese 106 (standard keyboard)




#9 Install the SD driver
in Control Panel open System>>hardware>>device manager>>right click "Base System Device">>reinstall driver (point it to the CD)

Reboot PC



#10 system should be all setup





JAPANESE RECOVERY IS ON HDD WITH THE L5

#A press 0 when booting (zero key)

#B 
This says "do wish to recover windows?"
Press Yes to recover back to Japanese

#C 
next message it "must clear contents of disk! ok?"
YES

#D 
And away it goes.... (takes about 50mins).
