Technical Limitation on a Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 Installation and Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card

If you have a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI card installed in your Toshiba notebook PC and you have manually installed Windows 2000 and Service Pack 3, i.e. you are not using the Toshiba preinstalled or Product Recovery version of Windows 2000, then a simple registry update is required to correct a Service Pack 3 technical limitation. Failure to do this will mean that Wireless LAN will not function.

The following operating system registry key needs to be updated after the Wireless LAN Mini PCI card driver has been installed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Pcmcia\Parameters

"DisableIsaToPciRouting"=dword:00000000

In order to prevent this from being typed incorrecty, Toshiba has prepared an easy to install patch to correct the Registry for you. To download this patch, please click here.

N.B.  If you are using a Toshiba preinstalled or Product Recovery version of Windows 2000, you do not need to update this registry key after installing Service Pack 3 as the registry key is already present on the Toshiba preinstalled version of Windows 2000.

Download and Unpacking Instructions



To download the file, simply click on the link above and select save to disk. Download the file to a known directory on your hard disk drive, e.g. C:\TEMP.

Open Windows Explorer and locate the file on your hard disk drive.


Extract the files to a known location on your hard drive. A copy of the shareware program WinZip can be downloaded by clicking here.


How to Install the Patch



Ensure that the Wireless LAN Mini PCI card driver is already installed.

Locate the patch on your hard drive (the official name of the patch is "DisableIsaToPciRouting.reg"), then double click on the file/patch to install.

A window should appear saying, "Are you sure you want to add the information in DISABL~1.REG to the registry?" Select Yes.

The following window should then appear, "Information in DISABL~1.REG has been successfully entered into the registry." Click OK.

Reboot the PC. 

NOTE: If you have purchased a copy of Windows 2000 which already contains Service Pack 3 and have manually installed it on your notebook with the Wireless Mini PCI Wireless LAN card installed, you should also install the above mentioned patch.
