<Update procedure>

The following procedure performs update.

Step 1 Point to be checked
Step 2 Preparation of update
Step 3 It updates.
Step 4 The updated version is checked.

¦ Attention ¦
  • Please be sure to back up a main part memory before having and updating to 10,001.
    Please read a handling description about the backup method.
  • In case you update, please be sure to connect AC adapter.
  • Please do not operate Zaurus during update.

Step 1 Point to be checked
  1. It checks whether mail update software / FOMA P2402 correspondence software is installed.
  2. An addition/deletion of software are chosen on a setting home screen.
  3. Since it becomes addition/deletion screen of software, uninstallation is chosen for software.
  4. Software Since it becomes the screen of the ANINSU Torah, it (either) is chosen when "qpe-mail" or "p2402-inst" is in a software list. When there is nothing, please move on to Step 2.
  5. Since the check screen of uninstallation is displayed, " is and it chooses ".
  6. After an uninstallation end, since the deletion screen of software is displayed, "O.K." is touched, and "x" at the upper right of a screen is touched twice.
  7. When there are two, "qpe-mail" and "p2402-inst", by 4., please uninstall another side similarly.

Step 2 Preparation of update
  1. Preparation of memory card
    In order to update a ROM image, please prepare 64MB or more of CompactFlash memory card / SD card (following memory card). please format memory card by FAT16 (or FAT), or do not re-format it after purchase (the memory card currently used by present Zaurus -- as it is -- using -- it can obtain)

  2. Preparation of the PC card adapter for memory cards
    A PC card adapter is prepared so that memory card can be used for the personal computer of use, and a personal computer is equipped with memory card.
    * A PC card adapter is not required of personal computers with the environment which can use memory card, such as a notebook PC.
    * When you do not come out with a PC card adapter, please move on to the next and copy a file to the root directory of a card by the Zaurus drive function.

  3. Download of update software
    Please download the following files in a personal computer.
    Please double-click and thaw the file after download.

    -> card_update_860140.exe (About 48MB)

    The file developed and generated and its capacity are as follows, respectively.
    - initrd.bin (about 49,409KB)
    - zImage.bin (about 1,264KB)
    - mversion.bin (about 16KB)
    - updater.sh (about 7KB)

  4. The copy of update software
    The "card_update_86014" folder thawed and generated is opened and it is in it.
    "initrd.bin", "zImage.bin", "mversion.bin", and "updater.sh"
    Please copy four files to the root directory of memory card. [Refer to the following figure.]
    Please check the capacity of four files after copying to a card.

    ¦ Attention ¦
    • Please do not copy to a card with downloaded card_update_86014.exe.
    • Please do not copy to a card the whole "card_update_86014" folder generated after defrosting, or do not copy four files to the folders (Documents etc.) on a card.
    • When the capacity of a file differs, it cannot update correctly. Since download of update software may have gone wrong, please download again.

Step 3 It updates.
  1. It equips with the memory card prepared for SL-C860 at Step 1.

  2. A maintenance menu is displayed.
    1. All applications are ended and a power supply is shut off.
    2. AC adapter is connected.
    3. The battery exchange switch by the side of the main part reverse side is switched to the "release (at time of exchange)" side.
    4. The battery exchange switch by the side of the main part reverse side is switched to the "lock (at time of use)" side, pushing both the [Fn] key and the [Home] key, after waiting for 5 seconds.
    5. It checks that the charge lamp (orange) is on, and a [power supply] button is pushed, pushing the [O.K.] button (or the [O.K.] key of a keyboard) on the back.

  3. If "4. update" is chosen on a "maintenance menu" screen, since an "update course" screen will be displayed, please choose the prepared memory card (3. 2. "CF" or "SD").

  4. "update" Since a screen is displayed, " should update by being and choosing (Y)."
    (Update takes about 6 minutes.) In the meantime, please do not carry out operation of SL-C860.

  5. Since the updated system starts after writing finishes, please set up the date.

Step 4 The updated version is checked.
The ROM version of SL-C860 is checked in the following procedures.
  1. [System information] application is started from a "setting" home screen.

  2. A "version" tab is pushed after [system information] is started.

  3. A version can be checked with a Linux Kernel section. ROM Version : 1.40 JP
    If upgrade can be checked, since four files copied at Step 1 are unnecessary, please delete from a memory card.
